More awards scooped by PURE!

Wanaka’s PURE NEW Zealand Ice Cream scooped 4 new awards at the prestigious 2019 NZ Ice Cream Manufacturer’s Association Awards in Auckland in November.

The awards take place annually and were held this year at Auckland’s Grand Millennium Hotel, where over 300 flavours were entered from over 50 Members and non-members. PURE were awarded silver medals in the Premium Ice Cream Category for their Manuka Honey and Fig Ice Cream, the Open Creative Category for their Beetroot and Ginger Sorbet and the Sorbet Category for their Lime sorbet and Berry Fusion Sorbet.

Anna Howard, Director and our Head of PURE Production and says, “I’m enormously proud of what our Team is creating in our artisan kitchen in Wanaka, along with the distinctive flavour choices we make. It’s reassuring that we’re producing ice creams that are not only of the highest quality but are continuing to delight people.”

Brian Thomas, Director and our Business Manager, says, “We’re really pleased with our performance this year, particularly as the market is becoming increasingly competitive. It’s gratifying to know that the effort we put into creating genuinely super-premium ice creams with 100% natural ingredients continues to be recognised by our industry colleagues.”

PURE New Zealand Ice Cream are in our 10th year of operation, so have seen ice cream trends and industry players come and go, but PURE have managed to retain top tier status as one of only a small number of truly super-premium ice cream producers in NZ.

Now in the second year of ownership of the business, Anna and Brian attribute the continued success of the brand to a strict philosophy of the use all-natural ingredients and to having a well thought out environmental plan. As well as containing award winning ice cream, their tubs are designed to be sturdy and fully reusable and are made from materials that are 100% recyclable in New Zealand. “There’s a lot of confusion in the marketplace around what is and isn’t recyclable, and what is recyclable in NZ. Paper tubs with PET linings tubs are a prime example, as they look and feel environmentally friendly, but are not yet widely recyclable in New Zealand.”, said Anna. The business is keenly aware that Retailers and Ice cream consumers are becoming increasingly tuned in to the need to make smart food and packaging choices and that they are weighing these factors more and more when making purchasing decisions.

Since 2018, Brian Thomas and Anna Howard have been the driving force behind PURE New Zealand Ice Cream and have seen the business go from strength to strength. Already familiar with the brand and established devotees of the product, Brian, his wife Linzi, and Anna didn’t hesitate to seal the deal when the company appeared on the market and became owners and stewards of the brand in Sept of that year. Brian and Anna, who run the business day to day, quickly identified PURE’s 3 brand pillars: Nothing artificial - ever; Intensely delicious flavours; and Leave only the lightest touch on the environment. The recipe seems to have worked! Read on to find out more about Brian and the success of PURE New Zealand Ice Cream.
