Biggest Scoop Ever
The NZ Ice Cream and Gelato Awards results are out... And we are delighted to announce that we have achieved our biggest scoop ever - a Category Champion and a total of 12 medals!

The New Zealand Ice Cream Awards recognise the quality of locally produced ice cream in Aotearoa and are a major event for boutique and commercial ice cream, gelato and sorbet makers from across the country. The 2022 awards celebrate 25 years with the addition of two exciting new categories and a new name that encompasses the continued growth of gelato alongside ice cream in New Zealand. Chief Judge Jackie Matthews and her team of 20 judges and 10 stewards, judged a total of 290 New Zealand ice creams, gelatos, sorbets and dairy-free frozen products.
After last year’s awards were cancelled due to Covid, Jackie Matthews says that the large number of medals awarded this year is a reflection of the quality of locally produced ice creams, gelatos and sorbets. “It’s across the board, we saw strong medal results in the Sorbet and the Best of Chocolate Category, they both offered many stand out entries on judging day. What’s more the judges were impressed by the innovation in the Open Creative entries, with twice as many gold medals awarded in this category compared to the previous judging in 2020.”

Mango & Coconut Gelato - Category Champion
We are delighted to announce that our Mango and Coconut Gelato has been named 2022 Dairy-Free Category Champion. This dreamy gelato will take you on a tropical flavour journey. Premium mango fruit creates a stunning amber ripple through our ultra-smooth and creamy white coconut base. It’s a huge honour to lead in this important category and we’d like to congratulate all the gold medal winners.

Gold medals for:
- Dark Chocolate Ice Cream – Made with 72% Belgian Callebaut Chocolate this ice cream is dark rich and satisfying.
- Choc Orange Ice Cream – New Zealand navel oranges are added to our Dark Chocolate Ice Cream to create this flavour sensation. This flavours is exclusive to our friends @dominosnz!
- Mango & Coconut Gelato - 2022 Diary-Free Category Champion. A delicious combination of premium mango fruit and creamy coconut.
Silver medals for:
- Vanilla Bean Ice Cream – made with organic vanilla bean seeds & extract, a firm favourite with PURE followers.
- Salted Caramel Ice Cream – stovetop caramel is combined with Marlborough flaky sea salt to produce this delicious taste collision.
- Mānuka Honey & Fig Ice Cream – enjoy the natural benefits of Canterbury Mānuka Honey combined with the natural sweetness of slow cooked figs.
- Kaffir Lime & Ginger Ice Cream - whole NZ organic kaffir lime leaves are hand-blended with ground ginger in our delicious ice cream base.
- Boysenberry Gelato – Purely made from berries produced in the Bay of Plenty, this gelato has huge berry and cream flavours.
Bronze medals for:
- Hokey Pokey Ice Cream – PURE-made hokey pokey is scattered through a golden syrup ice cream for this iconic Kiwi treat.
